Restoration Of Our Trees

The Restoration of Our Trees (ROOT) Program is a public/private partnership with the DTE Energy Foundation, USDA Forest Service, Michigan Departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture, the Governor's Office and the City of East Lansing.

The purpose of the program is to assist communities in southeast Michigan that have been impacted by Emerald Ash Borer by helping them replant trees.

Residents living in any of the 21 quarantined counties (Ingham, Eaton and Clinton locally) are eligible to purchase up to 2 trees per household at a cost of $21 each.

The City of East Lansing is one of 8 distributors of trees and we have a total of 200 trees to sell. The trees available for purchase are Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Red Oak, Littleaf Linden, Tulip Tree and Ginko. The trees come in 7 gallon containers, weighing approximately 40 pounds and are 6-8 feet tall. The City will establish a one day pick up date, which will be sometime between April 12-14. The cost of the tree is non-refundable, with no exchanges, no warranty and no guarantee. Trees will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. A homeowner does not need to have lost an ash tree or have an infected ash tree to participate in the program. Homeowners who would like to purchase a tree can download an order form from the City's web site below or at the Public Works Department Office. Order forms will be available starting February 1, 2007. All order forms must be accompanied by cash or check, credit cards will not be accepted. All complete order forms and payment must be received at the Public Works Department office, 1800 East State Road. Mailed order forms should be sent to: David Smith, ROOT Program, City of East Lansing, 410 Abbott Road, East Lansing, MI 48823.
